The zing of citrus, the lip-smacking flavour of tropical fruit and the delicious burst of juice from the abundance of berries: the farther away from summer we get, the more we tend to miss the flavours that filled the sun-drenched season. 

But just because some of your favourite produce is now out of season doesn’t mean you have to miss out. In fact, thanks to frozen fruit, you can still fill your family’s diet with their favourite flavours, even during the darker months that lie ahead.

1 – It travels well

Frozen food has traditionally got a bad rap from people who extol the virtues of buying fresh. But the simple truth is that the freezer section contains some of the healthiest foods you’ll find in your local grocery store and that’s particularly true when it comes to fruit. 

Here at Snowcrest we harvest our fruit at the peak of freshness then freeze it. This makes a crucial difference because fruit begins to lose its nutrients the second it’s been picked, something that’s emphasised during the winter months when fresh fruit typically has to be sourced from further away. And sometimes fruit is picked early so that it isn’t spoiled by the time it reaches the stores, however, this means that produce is never able to fully mature and attain its full nutritional value. 

2 – It’s just as nutritious as fresh

The reason why our products are able to hold much more of their nutritional value is that they are frozen as soon as possible after being harvested, locking in all of the vitamins and minerals before they have even left the farm. 

But just how good for you are frozen fruits and veggies? One study by the University of Chester dispelled the myth that fresh produce is nutritionally superior to frozen. In fact, it found that frozen products preserve more of the essential vitamins and antioxidants that fruit contains than their fresh alternatives. 

3 –  It’s good for you 

We all know that fruit is an important part of our diets, but that’s especially true during the winter months when our bodies need more of the vitamins, minerals and antioxidants that fruit naturally provides. Fruits like pomegranates, for example, are a great source of fibre as well as vitamins C, K, B and minerals such as calcium, potassium and iron, all of which are essential to keeping our bodies strong and healthy. Frozen pomegranate is also an incredibly versatile ingredient that can be used for everything from winter salads and mouth-watering molasses to sumptuous stews. 

4 – It’s quick, easy and incredibly versatile 

We all love coming back from the grocery store with arms full of fresh fruit, but after a long day at work who has the time to prep their ingredients from scratch? That’s where filling your freezer with a full spectrum of frozen fruit can really help because they are pre-prepared and can be ready in a flash. 

Take mangoes as an example. Normally peeling and de-stoning the fruit is a frustrating, and not to mention messy, process. But frozen mango is chopped and ready to go right out of the bag.
